Über Hirse

Eine Gruppe kleinkörniger, trockenheitstoleranter Getreide, die dort wachsen, wo Weizen, Reis oder Mais oft versagen — ein Grundnahrungsmittel im semiariden Afrika und Südasien. Indien ist mit Abstand der größte Produzent, gefolgt von Niger und China. Von Natur aus glutenfrei und zunehmend als klimaresistente Kulturpflanze gefördert, wird aber fast ausschließlich innerhalb der Anbauregionen gehandelt statt auf internationalen Märkten.
