About Millet

A group of small-seeded, drought-tolerant grains that grow where wheat, rice or corn often fail, a dietary staple across semi-arid Africa and South Asia. India is by far the largest producer, followed by Niger and China. Naturally gluten-free and increasingly promoted as a climate-resilient crop - the UN declared 2023 the International Year of Millets specifically to raise its profile as a nutrition and food-security crop - but still traded almost entirely within producing regions rather than on international markets.
