À propos du sorgho

Une céréale tolérante à la sécheresse, utilisée principalement pour l'alimentation animale, avec des usages alimentaires humains et de bioéthanol dans certaines régions. Les États-Unis, le Nigeria et le Mexique en sont les plus grands producteurs, l'Éthiopie et l'Inde étant aussi de gros cultivateurs. La Chine est devenue un acheteur étonnamment important pour une céréale plutôt associée au fourrage - la demande chinoise de sorgho pour le baijiu, l'alcool de céréales dominant du pays, et comme substitut du maïs dans les rations, en a parfois fait l'une des principales destinations d'exportation américaines. Il se substitue étroitement au maïs dans les rations d'alimentation animale, si bien que les prix le suivent de près.

Dernier prix mondial (2020-08) : +15% par rapport à la moyenne sur 5 ans, -6% par rapport à la moyenne sur 10 ans, +28% par rapport à il y a un an.
