À propos du coton

La fibre naturelle dominante pour le textile, cultivée principalement en Chine, en Inde, aux États-Unis et au Brésil. Les prix sont en concurrence avec les fibres synthétiques issues du pétrole et évoluent avec la demande mondiale d'habillement, les décisions d'assolement face à des cultures concurrentes comme le soja, et la météo dans les principales régions productrices. La Chine complique encore le tableau en détenant une importante réserve d'État de coton à des fins de stabilité économique, qu'elle peut libérer sur le marché intérieur ou retenir largement indépendamment de la récolte de l'année - un levier politique que la plupart des autres matières premières de ce site n'ont pas. Cette page suit le contrat Cotton No. 2 de l'ICE, la référence internationale standard.
