À propos du tabac

Une culture commerciale cultivée pour les cigarettes et autres produits du tabac. La Chine, l'Inde, le Brésil et les États-Unis en sont les plus grands producteurs. La demande mondiale connaît depuis des décennies un lent déclin structurel à mesure que le tabagisme recule dans les pays riches sous l'effet des campagnes de santé publique et de la réglementation (dont la Convention-cadre de l'OMS pour la lutte antitabac, l'un des traités les plus largement ratifiés de l'histoire de l'ONU) - la croissance sur certains marchés de pays en développement compense en partie ce déclin, sans l'inverser. Le tabac n'a pas de prix de référence mondial unique comme les céréales, si bien que le prix suivi ici est la valeur unitaire des importations américaines — un prix moyen sur tout le tabac entrant aux États-Unis.
