About Whey

Whey is the liquid left over from cheesemaking, once mostly discarded as waste and now dried into whey powder and sold as an ingredient - in infant formula, animal feed, and increasingly protein supplements. Tracked here via the EU Commission's weekly reference price for whey powder; because it's a byproduct of cheese production rather than something made on its own, its supply mostly follows cheese output rather than any decision to produce more or less whey itself.
