Spain, Italy and Greece together produce most of the world’s olive oil, which makes the crop unusually exposed to weather in just those few Mediterranean countries - the severe 2022-2023 drought in Spain, the largest producer by far, roughly halved its harvest and sent world prices to record highs. Tracked here via IMF’s benchmark reference series, since there’s no equivalent olive oil series in the World Bank Pink Sheet.
