La crise du citrus greening au Brésil — La récolte d'oranges 2024/25 du Brésil a chuté d'environ 27 % par rapport à la saison précédente, la plus faible depuis des décennies, alors que le citrus greening (HLB) - une infection bactérienne incurable transmise par un petit insecte - touchait environ 40 à 50 % des arbres dans la principale région productrice du pays, aggravée par la sécheresse. Le Brésil fournit à lui seul habituellement l'essentiel des exportations mondiales de jus d'orange.

À propos de l'orange

Le Brésil cultive largement plus d'oranges que tout autre pays - l'essentiel de sa récolte est transformé en concentré de jus d'orange pour l'exportation, si bien qu'une mauvaise récolte brésilienne (sécheresse, ou le citrus greening, une maladie qui a réduit la production de Floride de plus de 90 % depuis les années 2000 et qui se propage désormais aussi au Brésil) se répercute directement sur les prix mondiaux du jus. La Chine, le Mexique, l'Inde, l'Égypte et l'Espagne sont les autres grands producteurs.
