This commodity has no official global benchmark price, so "World (average)" is a simple, unweighted mean across whichever FAOSTAT-reporting countries had a producer price that year, computed by agri.markets — not a production-weighted figure, and not an official FAO statistic. Currency conversion uses monthly ECB reference rates since 1999 (some currencies joined later) — for comparison, not precise historical FX accounting.

Notable price events

Brazil's citrus greening crisis — Brazil's 2024/25 orange crop came in about 27% below the prior season, its smallest in decades, as citrus greening disease (HLB) - a bacterial infection with no cure, spread by a small insect - reached roughly 40-50% of trees in the country's main growing region, compounded by drought. Brazil alone normally supplies most of the world's orange juice exports.

About Oranges

Brazil grows more oranges than any other country by a wide margin - most of its crop is processed into orange juice concentrate for export, so a bad Brazilian harvest (drought, or citrus greening disease, which has cut Florida's orange output by over 90% since the 2000s and is now spreading in Brazil too) shows up directly in world juice prices. China, Mexico, India, Egypt and Spain are the other major producers.
