About Tomatoes
China is the world's largest tomato grower by far, followed by India, Turkey and the United States - most of the global crop is processed into paste, sauce and canned tomatoes rather than sold fresh. This site's price is IMF's benchmark series (French retail prices, used as the standard international reference since tomatoes have no major futures market) - a consumer-facing number, not a farm-gate one like most other prices tracked here.
