Price Chart
How this year compares, month by month, to the typical pattern of recent years for the selected region.
Notable price events
- 2007-08 global food price crisis — Drought in major exporting countries, combined with several governments restricting exports to protect domestic supply and growing demand for biofuel crops, pushed wheat, rice and corn to what were then record prices within about a year - triggering food riots in over 30 countries.
- 2012 US Midwest drought — The worst US drought in over 50 years cut the corn harvest roughly 13% below the prior year and pushed corn futures to a then-record above $8/bushel - the costliest agricultural disaster in US history at an estimated $30 billion in losses.
"World" is the global benchmark price (World Bank Pink Sheet, monthly since 1960, where available). Canadian province options are Statistics Canada producer prices (monthly); "Canada (average)" is a simple, unweighted mean across reporting provinces, computed by agri.markets — not a production-weighted figure. US state options are USDA AMS daily cash grain bids (individual elevators/trade locations averaged per state per day); "US daily average" is a simple, unweighted mean across reporting states, computed by agri.markets. "United States" alone is USDA NASS's monthly national figure. Currency conversion uses monthly ECB reference rates since 1999 (some currencies joined later) — for comparison, not precise historical FX accounting. "Bushel" uses the USDA/CBOT standard test weight for soybeans (27.22 kg) — bushels are a fixed weight that differs per grain, not a fixed volume. "Inflation-adjusted (real)" rescales each historical price to the purchasing power of the most recent month using the US CPI-U (Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, not seasonally adjusted) — applied the same way regardless of which currency a price is displayed in, since CPI-U measures general US price levels, not an exchange rate. A rough, standard way to compare prices across decades, not a substitute for a commodity-specific or country-specific deflator.
About Soybeans
A major oilseed crushed into soybean oil (cooking oil, biodiesel) and soybean meal (animal feed, especially poultry and pork). Brazil and the US are the two largest producers and exporters, with China by far the largest buyer — Chinese import demand and US-China trade relations are unusually influential on soybean prices. That was on full display in 2018, when China's retaliatory tariffs on US soybeans during the trade dispute cut US exports sharply and permanently shifted more of China's buying toward Brazil, reshaping global trade flows in a way that outlasted the tariffs themselves.
Latest US daily cash price (USDA AMS, averaged across reporting states): $12.59/bu on 2026-08-28.
USDA's WASDE report projects a $11.40/bu season-average price for the 2026/27 marketing year (+10% vs. $10.40/bu estimated for 2025/26).
Latest World price (2026-07): -13% vs. the 5-year average, -3% vs. the 10-year average, +12% vs. a year ago.
