Currency conversion uses monthly ECB reference rates since 1999 (some currencies joined later) — for comparison, not precise historical FX accounting.

Tracked via the EU's official weekly pig carcass reference price (Class E, the EU's standard EUROP grading benchmark). Germany, Spain, France and Poland are the largest EU producers; China is by far the world's largest pork producer and consumer, though its domestic prices aren't covered here. Prices are driven by feed costs (corn and soybean meal), herd cycles, and disease outbreaks like African swine fever, which has repeatedly forced large-scale culls across Europe and Asia.
