About Coconut Oil

Vegetable oil pressed from copra (dried coconut), used in food, cosmetics and biodiesel. The Philippines, Indonesia and India are the largest producers. Demand outside its traditional markets grew sharply through the 2010s as coconut oil was marketed heavily as a health food in Western countries, despite its saturated-fat content putting it at odds with mainstream dietary guidance - a reminder that demand for a commodity can shift on marketing and nutrition-trend cycles as much as on income or population growth. Prices move with the broader vegetable oil complex and with weather across Southeast Asia, the crop's main growing region.
